For the first time since the event’s inception in 2006, 500 cc motorcycles will race alongside the cars at the 2012 Tasman Series Revival at Sydney Motorsport Park on November 23-25. Up to 30 bikes representing the ‘golden’ 1960s era will compete for the Old Bike Australasia Magazine Cup.
“I am delighted at the response to the motorcycle event,” says Event Manager Peter Addison of the Historic Sports and Racing Car Association. “These bikes may be from another era, but they are certainly fast and I am sure their main event will be keenly fought out. It will be a great sight with single cylinder bikes like Manx Nortons, Matchless G50s, AJS 7Rs, and BSA Gold Stars, plus Triumph, BSA and Norton twins all in together. We have had positive expressions of interest from New Zealand and UK, as well as a big response from within Australia from virtually every state. The bikes will get as much track time as the cars, with practice and qualifying sessions, plus races on each day of the three day meeting.”
Entries to the 2012 Tasman Revival are now open on the ‘Entry Information‘ page of the Tasman Revival website. Click this link for everything you need to know about entering the 2012 Tasman Revival.
The Tasman Revival meeting comes just one week after the bikes compete at the same circuit for the Australian Historic Road Racing Championships. “The timing is ideal for competitors,“ said Peter Addison. “ For those wishing to stay on after their championship weekend, we will be offering free lock-up storage at the circuit for the week prior to the Tasman, with full security operating. I have attended the Goodwood Revival meeting in the UK, and I know that the motorcycle event there (the Barry Sheene Memorial Trophy) is one of the highlights of the program. It is always a hard-fought event and the bikes never fail to put on a great show, and the spectators love it.”
